Start Date: ASAP *INCREASED* Pay Ranges: $52.00 per hour, plus $188.00 a day per diem, non-local Job Description Pipe Welders are responsible for performing pipe welding procedures on Stainless Steel and Copper-Nickel pipe using Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding.
The shipyard environment is an around-the-clock manufacturing setting. Production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions, as well as multiple shifts, 24 hours a day. As with almost every position in the shipyard, a Welder may be required to work either day or night, depending upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time.

Types of metal materials with a variety of welding processes; the most basic of which are Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), also known as "stick welding", and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW), also known as "wire welding."
Must pass military standard X-Ray welding test on stainless steel and copper nickel in the 6G position (restricted). The pipe welding test is given in a specified position (6 G) on a 5-inch schedule 80 carbon steel pipe. GTAW (TIG) process used for root pass, 11018 electrode used for weld fill portion, and cap.
Basic Qualifications Must have (basic qualifications):
• Minimum 3Yrs. of pipe welding experience
• Must have experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), also known as "stick welding."
• Ability to pass military standard X-Ray welding test on stainless steel and copper nickel in the 6G position (restricted)
• Ability to pass a military specification welding assessment in the vertical (3G), horizontal (2G), and overhead (4G) positions
• Pipe welding test is given in a restricted position (6 G) on a 5'' schedule 80 carbon steel pipe
• GTAW (TIG) process used for root pass, 11018 electrodes used for weld fill portion, and cap
